When one of the world’s leading department stores required an extra building to house a new telecommunications facility CPS were presented with one of the most exciting and challenging installations in our company history.
Based in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in central London Harrods is arguably one of the U.K.’s most iconic landmarks but the busy city centre location was one of only a small number of obstacles to be dealt with.
The installation was sited on the roof top of the 5 acre site (which is the largest department store in Europe) and had to be located in and around other buildings and units providing essential services to the store and it’s thousands of employees.
Given the difficulties of access and the close proximity of other facilities the decision was taken to utilise our modular offsite system which allowed us to build a structure away from site before disassembling and delivering the unit in a flat pack format. This gave us a greater degree of flexibility at the point of delivery and in our handling of the products through the confined working areas within the store.
Installation was within particularly tight timeframes and liaison with other key services and contractors was critical in order to deliver the project to everybody’s satisfaction.
The finished product provides a secure and watertight environment housing critical telecoms and electrical equipment and has been provided to complement other structures in the vicinity.
